“Objects must enter into a sympathetic relationship with those who use them and they should be easy to use”, says Paolo Lomazzi, “objects of daily use, domestic and loving objects”: this is the inspiration that gave birth in 1973 to a simple but brilliant idea: the homonymous Chinese board game which consists of dropping wooden sticks on the table, and then picking them up one by one without moving the others. This coat hanger – designed by the trio Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi – in 1979 won the Compasso d’Oro award for its originality and essentiality, thus becoming one of the most important accessories produced by Zanotta. In addition, it is part of the collections of many museums around the world, such as the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin or the MoMA in New York. Sciangai can be used closed, with the eight slats forming a compact vertical beam, or open, ensuring greater stability thanks to the wide circumference of the supports at the base. The components, in fact, are connected to each other just above the center and each wooden element constitutes a support for hats, coats and other clothing. Sciangai is available in various versions, including natural, stained, gray, white, black and burgundy oak. Zanotta’s Sciangai coat hanger is part of the products displayed in our showroom in Viale Certosa 21 in Milan.
